Instructions:
With the Main Color (MC), create a magic circle.
Round 1: 2 ch (counts as 1 dc), 10 dc in the magic circle. Pull the "free" end to close the magic circle. Join with 1 sc in the second of the 2 starting chs.
Round 2: 2 ch (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the same space, *2 dc in the next space*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the round. Join with 1 sc in the second of the 2 starting chs.
Round 3: 2 ch (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the same space, 1 dc in the next space, *2 dc in the next space, 1 dc in the next space*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the round. Join with 1 sc in the second of the 2 starting chs.
Round 4: 2 ch (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the same space, 1 dc in the next two spaces, *2 dc in the next space, 1 dc in the next two spaces*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the round. Join with 1 sc in the second of the 2 starting chs.
Round 5: 2 ch (counts as 1 dc), 1 dc in the same space, 1 dc in the next three spaces, *2 dc in the next space, 1 dc in the next three spaces*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the round. Join with 1 sc in the second of the 2 starting chs.
Round 6: Work all the stitches as hdc in back loop only, distributing 4 increases evenly. Begin the round with 2 ch and close it with a sc in the second of the 2 initial chs.
Round 7 - 15: Work all rounds as hdc, without increases or decreases, always starting with 2 ch (counts as 1 hdc) and closing with a sc in the second of the 2 initial chs.
All stitches must always be made by pointing the hook into the spaces between two stitches from the previous round.
Cut the MC yarn.
Point the crochet hook into the same stitch where you made the closing sc of round 15 and with the SC, make 1 ch (counts as a dc). Place a stitch marker.
Rounds 16 - 19: With the SC, work in a spiral all rounds as dc. At the end of round 19, at the marker level, make a sc and cut the SC yarn. Remove the stitch marker.
Round 20: Point the crochet hook into the same stitch where you made the closing sc of round 19 and with the MC, make 2 ch (counts as a hdc). Work the entire round as hdc, distributing 5 increases evenly (about one every 12 stitches). At the end of the round, join with 1 sc in the second of the 2 initial chs.
Rounds 21 - 23: Work all rounds as hdc, distributing 5 increases evenly in each round, always starting with 2 ch (counts as 1 hdc) and closing with a sc in the second of the 2 initial chs. All stitches must always be made by pointing the hook into the spaces between two stitches from the previous round.
(If you prefer a wider brim hat, add a skein of Fiesole Straw yarn in the MC and repeat round 23 until the desired length).
Cut the yarn.
Finishing:
Hide the yarn ends with the needle.
Gently pull the brim of your hat to widen it and give it the desired shape.
